Description:
Telephony Network Advanced Overview is a suit-cased
instructor-led learning activity that is 3 days in length.
This course gives the student with an more in-depth understanding
of the Public Switched Telephone Network (PSTN).
This course provides an advanced flow of how telephone calls
(local and long distance) take place. The course includes the
different types of signaling, signaling requirements, components
of a central office, switch types and other elements that
comprise a telephone network. The material is presented in 12
lessons.
Learning Objectives:
Lesson 1- Placing local calls, call routing, tandems,
interexchange calls,Interlata calls, in-band/out band signaling,
SS7.
Lesson 2- Operation of the telephone, DC signaling
requirements, AC Signaling, alerting tones.
Lesson 3- Loaded and non-loaded cable pairs, bridge tap,
switching machine types.
Lesson 4- The CO, cable vault, distributing frames, DC
power plant, toll area, DSX’s, etc.
Lesson 5- Analog and digital signals, Pulse Code modulation
(PCM) time Division Multiplexing (TDM), unipolar to bipolar
conversion.
Lesson 6- Unipolar and bipolar signals, D1/SF/ESF types
of framing, synchronization, line codes.
Lesson 7- Types of digital lines: T1/DS1, TIC/DS1C, T2/DS2,
T3/DS3.
Lesson 8- D4 banks, Digital Loop Carrier Systems (DLC),
Digital Cross-connect Systems (DCS).
Lesson 9- Fiber Optics
Lesson 10- Synchronous Optical Network (SONET), Sonet
Configurations: Point to Point, Linear Ring.
Lesson 11- Digital data services: X.25, ISDN, ADSL, ATM,
frame relay
Lesson 12- Plain Old Telephone Service (POTS), custom
calling features, switches and non-switched special services.
